Welcome to the very first NSU Flute Festival! We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our beautiful campus on Sunday January 21st 2024 for a day of fun, exciting and inspiring flute playing! This event is suitable and open to absolutely everyone! Whether you are a high school flutist in band or taking private lessons, studying at college with the hopes and dreams of becoming a professional musician, an adult amateur flutist playing for fun or a seasoned flute teacher or professional performer, this is the event for you! We will be so thrilled to have you here with us and we promise to make you feel welcome.

We are so grateful to our Guest Artists for the festival, in particular to legends of the flute Mark Sparks, Sir James Galway and Lady Jeanne Galway. Mark, undoubtedly one of the most beloved and successful flute players in the United States, will be flying in especially for us to perform and deliver a masterclass. Sir James, without doubt the most famous flute player to ever live, will join us virtually from Switzerland, along with his wife and leading flute soloist Lady Jeanne Galway, to take part in our Q&A about his incredible career and to answer your flute playing questions as well as leading sessions on tone improvement and career advice.

We are thrilled to have FluteWorld join us on the day as the main exhibitor who will bring with them an enormous selection of instruments to try, and sheet music and accessories to browse and purchase. If you would like them to bring specific items or instruments for you, from sheet music and flute bags right through to student instruments or handmade professional ones, please fill out the form on the "Exhibit Hall" page and we will pass that information onto them so that it is here waiting for you at the festival! We are also grateful to Yamaha for their support as well. We also must thank Northwestern State University for allowing us to use their incredible concert hall and facilities for the festival.

This event is FREE of charge! Nobody needs to pay a penny to attend. From the concerts, masterclasses, workshops or even sessions for parents.....it's all included for free! We do ask though that you register in advance using the "Reserve your Place" page.

On this website, we have included information for travel to Natchitoches as well as ideas for accommodation if you choose to stay here for the weekend. Natchitoches (pronounced "Nak-a-dish") is very much a tourist town. Its small size and charming feel, not to mention its fame for being the set of the movie "Steel Magnolias", make it a tourist destination for so many each year.

We have tried to provide as much information as possible on this site but if you have any questions at all, please do reach out and get in touch using the "Contact" page. We are so happy to help and cannot wait to have you join us.

Best wishes,

Dr. Stephen Clark

NSU Flute Festival Director

Assistant Professor of Flute at Northwestern State University
